WHY WE ALL DO WHAT WE DO!

This is why Feeding the Orphans does what they do.  This is why volunteers like myself are called to come here and why we need your help.  We still need a few food sponsors.

Today, April 21, 2012 was our Big Birthday Bash!  We celebrated all of the children's birthdays.  We sang Happy Birthday to Me, had a race where they had to carry a small bouncy ball in a spoon, rice sack races, Azonto dancing competition, Azonto musical chairs, ate Rice Jolaff with chicken, cake, ice cream and Fantas.  Each child received their own Bible today dedicated in memory of Mary White, grandmother of Robin Franklin Beebe.  We had prizes for all of the games and the children had so much fun.  Our party lasted from noon until 7:30 pm.

These children do not have birthday parties and many of them have never had a birthday party.  It was on my heart to do this for them so they could experience something most of us take for granted.  They were so excited to get their one gift, the Bible.  Seeing and sensing the attitude of gratefulness for something like a birthday party and one gift touched my heart in a very deep way.  Tears came when I thought about it and they were not sad tears but tears of awareness.  I am so aware of the fact that we have so much to be grateful for to our Heavenly Father and we don't say thank you.  We expect.  These children don't expect anything and wear such beautiful smiles.  This was the best birthday party I have ever been too!

When I gave them their Bibles I told them about the most important birth in all of history.  The birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  I told them about the most important gifts given to mankind, salvation and God's Word.  I encouraged them to take these gifts and not lay them aside but to treasure them.  I pray that these children will develop a thirst for His Word and become men and women of God, missionaries in the place they live, bringing His light and salvation and Word lifting up and exalting the name of Jesus. Please pray with me.

Visit to Chorkor

Joseph (above) and Dominick (below pictured with their mother) live in Chorkor. They are so sweet.  We visit them each month taking food.  Joseph was all smiles this month when I gave him color books, crayons, little cars, craft project and glue stick.  He blew some bubbles which my camera was not quite quick enough to capture.  Momma and Dominick were at the market so this a picture from another visit.

 CAPE COAST, AFRICA FIELD TRIP

Kakum National Park
The children of Assurance of Hope Orphanage, Teshie Ghana, would like to go to the Slave Castle in Cape Coast and Kakum National Park.  The slave castle is rich in the history of their people and the park is a beautiful rain forest with seven canopy bridges that provide an outstanding view.  I remember taking them to the swimming pool at the Ramada Hotel in Teshie and how excited they were. Some of them had never been to a pool before.  I cannot imagine how excited they will be to actually take a trip outside of their town. I know this is asking a a lot and I also know we serve a God who if it is His will for these children to go on this trip He  will make a way!  Thank you in advance  on  behalf of the kids!

Mission Dei Community Church

Thank you to the  Mission Dei Community Church for their donation that purchased 100 fitted, 100 flat twin bed sheets, 30 buckets, 30 small pails, two metal washing tubs for clothes, 3 plastic washing tubs for dishes, under clothes and socks for all of the school aged children and bathing sponges for each child. These buckets will serve as storage for all of their bathing essentials and free them from standing in line to wait for a bucket to bath. I have watched them scramble for under garments and socks and the finder is the keeper.  The socks and undergarments are all marked with their names.  This is very important because if they go to school without their undergarments or socks they will be caned.  The sheets will provide them with clean bedding every night now. This is such a wonderful gift and we cannot thank you enough!

Eagerly waiting for me to snap their picture so they can dig into their buckets!

It might seem like a small thing but I don't think they have ever all had their own bathing sponge.  I know they have never had their own bucket and pail.

They were so happy to receive the socks, underwear and t-s.  Thank you again Missio Dei Community Church!

Took these two to the pool today and we stayed from 9am until 5 pm.  They had so much fun.

I kept thinking they would wear out but they played in the water the entire time only getting out to each lunch which was pizza!

I am going to try and take two children every week to the pool.  It cost about $45 us for the cab, pool fee and lunch.  If you would like to help send them to the pool contact Feeding the Orphans via the internet.  Thank you!
